Monsters Inc. Birthday Party

We had THE BEST time putting together this Monster’s Inc. Birthday party! I am finally getting to putting these photos together to share Jaden’s 8th birthday! Yes it’s been about 4 months (and we’re about to throw Parker James’s 4th birthday!! More on that later…) but I wanted to share it nonetheless!

Like I have said in most of my party posts, I. LOVE. PARTIES! (Go check out the other party posts to see just how much!!!)

Here’s some of the fun we had that day!

THE THEME

Monster’s Inc has always been a family favorite. We even dressed up as Mike and Sully and the Monster’s University Gang for Halloween last year!

So a Monster’s Inc Party just made perfect sense! I have to be honest. I LOVE EVERYTHING Disney so it was super fun to throw together!!

THE DECORATIONS

THE BACKDROP

To make this simple, I hung a plastic table cloth with a green and white polka dot print as the backdrop. I make a Monster’s Inc Inspired poster board sign with Jaden’s name and age.   Just like I usually do, I used Dollar Tree poster board and my Cricut to make a stencil with the Monster’s Inc font.

Friends… NEVER underestimate what a ballon arch can do!! To top it off, I made a HUGE balloon arch with the Mike and Sully colors! (Here’s the balloons I used!)

To give the buffet a bit of a finishing touch, I found a monsters  Happy Birthday banner to hang across the front.

OTHER DECORATIONS

Sometimes the most simple decorations, can make a huge difference! It’s in the little details! I used my Cricut to cut out some Monster’s Inc. logos and found some monsters  to decorate windows in the dinning room as well as other windows and french doors all over the house! I also made some monster center pieces for some extra detail! And of course Mike and Sully party bags!

Along the same lines, never underestimate the power of a few streamers and balloon clumps here and there  using the party theme colors! Such a great pop of color and tie the whole house together! Also never underestimate just HOW many balloons you’ll need for all the corners and door frames!

Using my Cricut, I made a “Scare Floor” front door hanger that turned out SUPER cute! And it wouldn’t be a Monster’s Inc. birthday party without some yellow scream tanks!

THE FOOD

For the menu, I stuck with my usual party food of dollar roll and deli meat, veggie and fruit trays, but added some buffalo dip, and chicken salad sandwiches!

To keep with the theme, I made some monster Rice Krispies as well as made a grape tray to look like Mike with a giant eye ball!

And like I said before, it’s ALL in the little details! So of COURSE I made personalized theme water bottles! I didn’t get great shot of them sadly!

THE CAKE

In a previous blog post, I map out how I  make my cakes:  signature birthday cake recipe.

For this Monster’s Inc cake, I used my traditional design and used a cake tip that can be used for grass to make sully’s hair look so furry.

I used lime green food coloring for the buttercream icing for Mike (see my favorite recipe here!).

To give it a finished look, I grabbed a Monster’s Inc themed cake topper!

I usually make some cupcakes so people have a choice and I found some monsters themed cup cake toppers!  It’s in the details right!?!

As I’m sure you can see, we ALL had a GREAT time!
